Making Sense of a Disposable Vape’s Puff Count

On the surface, it seems like using the puff count to compare a disposable vape to cigarettes would be fairly easy. On average, a cigarette lasts 10 puffs. If you get 600 puffs out of a disposable vape, then the vape should provide the equivalent of three packs of cigarettes.

Unfortunately, though, it isn’t quite that simple.

If you have a disposable vape handy, try puffing on it a few times whilst timing your puffs with a stopwatch. Is each puff one second in duration? If so, congratulations – you probably will get around 600 puffs from a disposable vape.

There’s a good chance, though, that you actually tend to take longer puffs – and that presents a challenge because when a manufacturer says that its disposable vape lasts up to 600 puffs, the assumption is that your average puff length will be one second. Is your average puff length longer than that – like two seconds, for instance? If so, you’ll need to adjust the expected puff counts of your vapes accordingly.

So, if we calculate by the number of puffs, we find that a 600-puff disposable vape is equal to about three packs of cigarettes – and if we calculate by nicotine content, we find that it’s more like one pack. In reality, your result will probably be somewhere in between. On average, people usually use disposable vapes for about two days before they run out of e-liquid. The only experience that really matters is yours, though, and that brings us to our next point.

Calculating the True Cost of a Disposable Vape

When you try to calculate how long a disposable vape should last, your question shouldn’t be “how many cigarettes should a 600-puff vape equal?” Instead, what you really want to know is how much a disposable vape costs you to use given your personal usage tendencies. Specifically, you want to know how much you pay per day to vape. You can do that by tracking the number of days your preferred brand of vape lasts before running out of vape juice. Ideally, you’ll do this with a few vapes to get an average. Once you’ve done that, divide the price of your preferred vape by the number of days that it lasts. The result is the amount of money that you pay each day to vape, and there’s really no number more important than that.

Since all disposable vapes contain the same amount of e-liquid, you can’t get a longer-lasting vape by switching brands. If you want to pay less per day to use disposable vapes, there are only two ways to do it. You can find a brand that costs less, or you can adjust the way you vape to make your devices last longer. If you can make your disposable vapes last longer, it’ll have a direct benefit on your wallet because it’ll mean that you won’t have to buy new devices as often. To ensure that your vapes will last as long as they can, always keep these three tips in mind.
