TPD goes some way to establish minimum standards for quality and safety and includes maximum e liquid volumes and strengths, packaging requirements and prohibits the use of some ingredients eg. caffeine, taurine, colouring. Further studies are needed to ensure any ingredient in e-liquid is safe when vaped at such high temperatures and that manufacturers list ALL ingredients.
Some e-liquids have been known to contain harmful ingredients like diacetyl – ensure your e juice is diacetyl and diketone free! So is there a safe way to vape? On the whole, the ingredients and manufacturing process is not controlled or transparent.

In the early day of vaping there were few eLiquids available in the UK that were both clean and transparent and that mde the consumer aware of all ingredients. E-liquids are not all made in a controlled pharmaceutical environment with full ingredients listed. You are not made fully aware of what you are inhaling and so are not aware if the e-liquid is as safe and clean as possible. The vast majority of eLiquids do not have fully listed ingredients and therefore you can not tell if your e-liquids are pure, clean and shown as safe. TPD regulations effective in 2017 take the first steps in ensuring liquids will become safer in the future.
Verify Your E-Liquid Ingredients!
E-Liquid companies boasting “100% made in the UK” or “best flavours” or “best quality e liquid” must be able to back these statements up with full lab testing evidence and full ingredient transparency. It it not acceptable to present a whole range of eliquids, tell us how good they taste, the discounts, the next day delivery or the free postage …. and then hide or not disclose what exactly is in the eliquid – does it contain diacetyl! Telling us their eliquids are organic and made from delicious food grade ingredients or food flavourings does not tell us what else might go into the ingredients. Like saying a cake is made in the UK from finest flour. It may have the finest flour in it – but that’s not all it has in it!
